Jay Chambers, originally from Baltimore, MD relocated to the Carolinas in the early 70’s. After graduating from East Carolina University and an earlier career in advertising he became involved in over $1 billion of retail commercial real estate transactions.

He was selected by Business Properties Magazine as one of the Top Brokers in Charlotte in 1993 and named Top Broker over all (retail and all other specialties) for Charlotte in 1995 by the Charlotte Region Commercial Board of Realtors. Jay Chambers joined CB Richard Ellis as a Retail Tenant Representative Specialist in 1989. He was one of the top retail brokers for CB Richard Ellis nationally during his tenure.

The Chambers Group has been successful in focusing on Tenant Representation and very selective commercial retail property listings, BTS developments, and investments in the major retail corridors in the Southeast United States, particularly in North and South Carolina and the southern portion of Virginia.

Jay Chambers has his real estate broker license in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia and is a member of the International Council Shopping Centers (ICSC) and the X Team National Network. Jay Chambers has served on the Department of Transportation Committee for the Chamber of Commerce, and on the Board of Directors for Charlotte Rescue Mission and The Barnabus Group.

Matthew Funderburk is a native Charlottean and a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte who joined The Chambers Group in 2001.

Matt has successfully assisted national retailers such as Porter Paint, Goodyear Tire, Hardee’s, Ace Hardware, The Vitamin Shoppe, Napa Auto Parts, Buffalo Wild Wings, Carter’s, Yankee Candle, Rainbow Fashions, Leslie’s Swimming Pool Supplies, Verizon retailer ABC Phones, Harbor Freight Tools, and Primrose Schools with new store site selection and has helped many local and regional retailers expand their business into multi-location corporations.

He is a licensed broker in North and South Carolina, and a member of the ICSC and the X-Team.

Grey Hanna was born and raised in Staunton, VA, and moved to Charlotte, NC after graduating from West Virginia University in 2002. Grey holds his MBA in real estate development and finance from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

After being self-employed as a real estate broker for 2 years Grey joined The Chambers Group in 2007. He is a licensed broker in North & South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia and is an active member of the ICSC and the X-team.

Grey has successfully leased several properties, yet his focus remains retail tenant representation and he has consistently and creatively uncovered enormously successful sites for his clients in both large metropolitan areas as well as small niche markets in the Carolinas and Virginias.

Anita Shahdad was born in England and began her commercial real estate career in airport management at London-Gatwick airport in 1977.

After moving to the US in 1987, and starting a family, she returned to the commercial real estate world in 1996. After working for one of the oldest Charlotte firms, she then joined CB Commercial where she worked closely alongside Jay Chambers.

After a few years out on her own, running her own property management company, she joined The Chambers Group in 2001.

Anita has two sons, the oldest is a junior at Chowan University and the youngest is a senior at South Mecklenburg High School.

Anita is licensed in North and South Carolina.

Philip Corriher, CCIM E-Mail Philip>>

Philip Corriher is a native Charlottean and received a B.S. in Finance from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Philip joined the Chambers Group in 2010 and specializes in retail leasing and sales with a focus on Landlord representation for select retail centers throughout the Carolinas. He has over 8 years of commercial real estate experience and has developed a strong network of contacts throughout the industry. Prior to joining The Chambers Group, Philip was Director of Leasing for Centurion Partners in Charlotte and was successful in leasing many retail development projects and shopping centers at premium rental rates.

He has a real estate broker’s license in North and South Carolina. He is a member of the Charlotte Regional Commercial Board of Realtors (CRCBR), the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and a Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM).

GIS Coordinator

Travis Alexander was born and raised in the small town of Waxhaw, NC which is located twenty minutes south of Charlotte. He recently graduated from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC with a B.S. in geography and a concentration in GIS (geographic information systems). He joined The Chambers Group in 2011, accepting the position of GIS Coordinator and serving as the company’s representative in the National X-Team Technology Group.

Travis has extensive experience from college related projects and internships that he has performed throughout his college and professional life; most notably, serving as a GIS intern to the Town of Boone, NC and Appalachian State University. He was responsible for projects such as gathering and organizing data for creating crime maps to supplement the efforts of the local police force. He engineered presentations on the benefits of GIS to various town committees. He was also involved in organizing environmentally friendly projects for the town by performing site analysis for a new state of the art composting facility and ways improve the towns recycling centers to make them more effective and accessible.

His focus is to apply his knowledge of GIS and related subjects to the commercial real estate business in order to provide accurate and beneficial knowledge to our clients and give them an advantage over their competition.
